It is the fifth milestone bridge following the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge, and Wuhu Yangtze River Bridge.

       On August 22, 2005, General Secretary Hu Jintao inspected the bridge construction site, met with the leadership of the bridge; bridge was completed on December 26, 2009 and opened to traffic;

       In 2011, the bridge won the 27th International Bridge Conference George Richardson Award.
