"2016 Wuhan's City of Design Application · Creative Market" event was held at Wuhan Creative Capital (West Yezhi Road) on April 9th of 2016. Young designers from Wuhan and beyond exhibit their handicrafts and creative works at over 50 stands. This event marks the official beginning of Wuhan's City of Design application to the UN with joints efforts of its citizens.

Sponsored jointly by the CPC Wuhan Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department and Wuhan Urban and Rural Construction Committee, the event was jointly undertaken by the Party Committee of Hongshan District, Hongshan District Government, Wuhan Committee of Communist Youth League, and Optics Valley Union Holding Company Limited. The event consists of four parts: creative market, art exhibition, design lecture, and integrative activities. It involves architectural design, costume design, jewelry design, industrial design, and interior design.

In addition to this event, Wuhan will hold a number of design activities in order to motivate its citizens to participate in developing it into a city of design.
