The competition is co-sponsored by Wuhan Urban and Rural Construction Committee and Wuhan Evening News. As an important event for Wuhan's "City of Design" application, the competition aims at motivating Wuhan's citizens to contribute their ideas to the creation of designs that can best capture Wuhan's soul, and to seek proper ways to express their love for the city.

Since it officially began on August 3rd of 2016, the competition has attracted wide attention and participation. Within only a month, the Organizing Committee of the competition has received 340 creative works from the Han embroidery inheritors, the design teams of a few schools (such as the School of Art and Design at Hubei University of Technology, the School of Art and Design at Wuhan University of Technology), and a number of cultural and creative organizations that are well known in Hubei province (such as Geesense Lebond, Clouds Fly All the World, and Baixingfang Customization), along with citizens in general. These works indicate a favorable environment for Wuhan's City of Design Application.

A team of 50 Wuhan's experts (including college teachers, famous designers, and art critics) was responsible for the subsequent two rounds of review. Through the review, 75 pieces of works were shortlisted. After checking the original copyright online, the team awarded the first, second, and third prizes to 9 pieces of works.
