The School of Art Design is one of the characteristic schools or departments of Wuhan Media and Communications College of Huazhong Normal University and offers four-year undergraduate programs of visual communication design (print media design, advertisement planning and design), environmental art design (indoor design and landscape design) and fine art design for drama, film and television (stage art design). Currently, it has students of 1120.

The School of Art Design adheres to the purpose of teaching and educating people, emphasizes the dominant role of teaching and forms good soft environment through a variety of colorful activities. Meanwhile, it improves the teaching methods and means under the guidance of informatization, continuously optimizes the teaching contents, comprehensively enhances the teaching quality and constructs scientific, systemic and practical course system and practical teaching system with system building as the fundamental.

The School of Art design orients at cultivation of "applied" talents, bases the market demands to formulate feasible talents cultivation plan, continuously consolidates the foundations for students to develop hands-on ability, explores the industry-university-research institute cooperative school-running mode and endeavors to improve the teaching quality. According to the follow-up survey, the graduates are generally praised by the employers. For instance, Zhu Yawen has become the young backbone of Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. In recent years, the average employment rate of graduates of the School has reached more than 90% and up to 65% of them find employment roughly in line with their major. The employment rate has been raking among top three of Wuhan Media and Communications College of Huazhong Normal University for five consecutive years.

At present, the School of Art Design organizes teaching through interdisciplinary features and enhances the connection between theoretical teaching and practical teaching through implanted courses. Currently, it has established cooperation relationship with Central and Southern China Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. Architecture and Garden Branch, Beijing S. H. Innovation and Design Culture Development Co., Ltd., Wuhan Yilu Architectural Decoration and Design Engineering Co., Ltd., Wuhan Red Fire Advertisement Design Co., Ltd., Wuhan Xinqiyu Cultural Media Development Co., Ltd., Wuhan Dongning Cultural Media Co., Ltd., Wuhan Huikongjian Decoration Design Engineering Co., Ltd., and Wuhan Taigu 1918 Indoor Design Engineering Co., Ltd. and set up 19 practice training bases. Good teaching environment, outstanding faculty and stable practice bases create good development space for the design talents to stand out.
