Department of Art Design of Wuhan Polytechnic (the Department) now offers programs of three majors: environmental art design, product art design and digital media art design. Of which, the environmental art design major is a provincial training base and the environmental art design (landscape design concentration) is a provincial characteristic major and national experimental major of modern apprenticeship. It now has 32 staffs and one Chutian Famous Teacher. 29 of them are full-time teachers, 15 of them have senior professional titles and 11 have intermediate professional titles. 90% of them are double qualified teachers and the number of students is 798. It has built more than 10 on-campus training centers such as studio, professional darkroom, pottery room, graphic center, models room, structure and material room, and the indoor design studio, landscape design studio, visual communication design studio, animation design studio, product styling and design studio and photography studio. Many creative product bases of enterprises like "Hubei Boke Landscape Art Design Engineering Co., Ltd. Third Design Department", "Wuhan Kunlun Decoration & Design Co., Ltd. Design Branch" and "Guangzhou Yuyuanliang Metal Product Co., Ltd. Creativity Studio" are located on campus. It has many off-campus practical teaching bases like "Hubei Boke Landscape Art Design Engineering Co., Ltd. Teaching Base", "Luodan Bride Wedding Photography Company" and "Wuhan Houxiang Design Firm" and so on, and established long-term cooperation relationship with more than 20 enterprises.

Guided by "imitating the nature, respecting the tradition and enriching knowledge", the Department sets up professional studio project course teaching system, updates the education and teaching concepts, introduces the cultural contents into teaching, improves the teaching standard and assessment system of project course and constructs the virtuous circle model of enterprises, universities and research institutes to cultivate specialized technical talents who have artistic aesthetics and creativity ability and good moral characters. Apart from general major courses, the Department also offers attractive cross-disciplinary selective courses, extensive and profound Tanshizhai academic cultural lectures and colorful activities and diverse international exchanges for students. Students have won many gold and silver prizes in many international and domestic competitions.
